Why do so few of us actually achieve our goals?

We’ve all been there.

You set a goal, something you really want. The excitement builds, you can see what it looks like to achieve that goal, you're already living in that future, you want that life. You think about it constantly, you dream about it, you might even write it down and then…nothing.

Days pass. Weeks. Maybe even months. The goal stays there, floating in the background of your mind like a tab you never quite close. You do still kind of want to do it, but you tell yourself, maybe now isn't the right time, maybe when Im more experienced, when I'm a bit older, maybe I'm too old, when I've lost the weight, when the kids are older, when I'm through this particular stage in my life, the list goes on and on and on all contributing to a grinding standstill of your goals and dreams.


So what gives? Why do we struggle to take action on the very things we say we want?

Is it laziness? It is just me? It is that Im not that type of person? Is it because its just not the right time? Is it that I'm not the right person?

Nope - It is Human Nature.

Let’s get one thing straight: it’s not because you’re lazy or unmotivated. There are deeper, very human reasons behind the stuckness. Here are a few of the most common:


1. Fear (in all its sneaky forms)

  • Fear of failure: What if I try and it doesn’t work?

  • Fear of success: What if I can't handle it when it does?

  • Fear of judgment: What will others think?

  • Fear of change: What if life becomes unfamiliar?

Fear often disguises itself as procrastination, perfectionism, self-doubt, or “waiting for the right time.”


2. Overwhelm and Decision Fatigue

When you’re juggling life, work, family and mental load, it’s no wonder you’re too exhausted to pursue your dreams. Even simple next steps can feel like climbing a mountain when your brain is burnt out.


3. Your Goal Isn’t Fully Aligned

Sometimes we set goals based on what we think we should want, not what we truly want. Without emotional connection, it’s hard to stay committed.


4. Lack of Structure or Support

Even if the desire is there, a lack of clear direction can kill momentum. Without a plan, accountability, or someone to cheer you on, it’s easy to drift or give up.


So, what can I do if I really do want to achieve my goal?

3. Accountability & Motivation

Every month we have a group accountability call that ensures we all stay honest to the actions that we committed to at the beginning of the month, but is is also time to reflect on what went well (to give ourselves evidence and self belief of our success) and also on what didn't go so well so we can adapt for the coming month. Having someone in your corner changes everything. Suddenly you aren't alone trying to work it all out by yourself. I have someone who keeps me on track, celebrates my wins with me, and gently calls me out when I'm playing small or getting in my own way.


4. Confidence & Empowerment

Having a coach that believes in you and is helping you every step of the way allows you to believe in yourself. You make real progress towards your goals and in turn that builds EVIDENCE. Through this evidence you can see for yourself (even if you are one of the biggest self doubters like me) that IT IS ACTUALLY HAPPENING. From here you start building trust in yourself, a trust that you can follow through on those dreams, that you wont quit when it gets tough (and it will!), that you are worthy of the results that you achieve. The more action you take, the more capable you feel. It is that momentum that drives you towards your goal.
